Day 15... I Love My Chair!

In my opinion, teachers should have a chair that they love. They shouldn't have to sit in a chair that is too low or too small or too uncomfortable. This is not The Three Bears.

And how could you truly love sitting on this?

Four years ago, our district began to incorporate more technology into the classroom. That translated into more teacher trainings to attend.

Along with an assortment of other inservices, I was required to attend a training on the "presentation station." In real terms: I was required to attend a training about a table and a chair. No, I am not kidding.

All of the teachers in our district have the same table (which holds the computer and the document camera) and the same chair... a black vinyl puffy raise-able/lower-able contraption that once descended without warning, trapping me within the chair frame. (I was talking to a student at the time, and he just kept lowering his gaze as I sank closer to the floor.)

Why am I telling you this? Because I cannot choose my chair for the infamous "presentation station." (nor would I want to!) But I CAN choose the chair I sit in when I am working at the guided reading table.

I LOVE my chair {Cue choir of angels!}

I got it at the Container Store, and it is made out bungee cords. And it's magenta! (In my world, magenta is second-best when purple is not an option).

You can see my chair hiding in its gloriousness here... (And, yes, I know, that's not a word, but I like it and it's staying in the sentence. "Glory" didn't work.)

See it? No, huh.

Okay, here it is all alone... I tried to give it a heavenly appearance...

And, truthfully, that's all I really wanted to share. I just love sitting in my chair. I think it makes it so much easier to get work done when you're comfortable sitting in a chair you love!

What does your teacher chair look like? Is there something else in your classroom that you truly LOVE?

  1. I have never seen a chair like that! I sit on one of the plastic kid chairs at my guided table and a stool at my easel...may have to get a comfy chair! Between guided reading, guided math, and intervention groups, I feel like I am sitting at that guided table all day long! Might as well be comfy :)

  2. One of our secretaries just gave me an extra new chair (they ordered too many). It is comfy, but the edges of the seat are rounded. I have almost slid off three times. "Just working some squats in while you kids work..." I miss my hard lopsided chair.

    1. I cracked up when I read your squats comment. Some chairs pretty much do throw you onto the floor! Who designs them?

  5. Hahahaha I cracked up when I read that your chair kept sinking and the kid kept lowering his eyes. Hilarious. Kids just kind of roll with whatever we throw at them. I remember one year my allergies were AWFUL and I had to blow my nose every 47 seconds. I had a kid who had a very sensitive gag reflex and every time I blew my nose, he went, "Ack. Gag. Ack." and then he got over it. EVERY TIME! Poor kid. lol

      I think I might have to chuckle at "Ack Gag Ack" (while being sympathetic, of course!) So fun that you stopped by!

  6. I am loving your daily blog posts! I know I don't comment every day, but I am reading them. No matter how short and sweet they may be, they bring a smile to my face during this crazy back to school time! :)
