A Variation on a Schedule

I am constantly searching for ways to get kids to read and think.  Often they enter the room asking, "Are we gonna..." For the first few weeks of school, I gently suggest they check the agenda on the board.  Eventually, I move to just glancing at the board, and they know where to find their answers.

I like to give hints, but still keep them guessing.  So, instead of saying, "Math" or "Operations with Integers," I write something like "Navigating Up and Down a Thermometer." And then, at math time, we hop up and down intervals on a chalk-drawn thermometer outside!  I include standards and objectives in my lessons, so the agenda board is mostly for kids (and for tired teachers who forget what is happening next!)

I'm not sure which is worse, my printing or my photography... but I hope you can get the idea.  Tomorrow is Wednesday.  By lunch we'll be half-way to Friday!
